I've added a forum at http://forum.recoded.net/ for all to use. I've also added eGroupWare at http://recoded.net/egroupware (url may change later).
Both of these are still in the process of having their settings adjusted. If you are interested in participating in projects and want access to egroupware, you will need to send me a message (or leave one on the forum) as there is currently no registration page for it.
Speaking of projects; Let's get some started.
Anyone that has known me long enough will know that I am still slooooowly working on my big multi-part project called Hunt which in itself contains a lot of smaller projects. The main engine that Hunt will use is called VirOS.
For now I am skipping the VirOS VFS and will simply use a directory. I haven't yet decided if I really want to go the route of creating a VFS for it or just using ZIP/PAK files similar to that of Uplink/Quake or the like. More than likely that will be the route I take at a later stage however in order to save some time on development as well as using a compression that would more than likely be better than anything I come up with.
As for security, to keep users from easily modifying the game data outside of the game itself, I will include an encryption system in which each file being read from the real file system will be decrypted and files saved to the real file system are encrypted.
Since I am skipping the VFS stuff for now, I am currently working on the GUI for VirOS. Although it may currently seem like overkill to some, the GUI will be handled by Irrlicht. The reason for this is because it will be easier to switch between the 3D and 2D graphics within Hunt much easier since Irrlicht handles both simultaneously. Also, what good is an OS that doesn't support 3D right? >.>
That's all the news for now. If you'd like to help on anything, hit me up on the forum. Posted on 2010-02-18 01:00:55  Share |
